Luna eCenter
Luna, Apayao – For about eight years now since its establishment catering cyber services in town, the Community e-Center here has gained prominence as it becomes a major hangout among students and professionals doing researches in the absence of a library equipped with up-to-date reference materials.
Stationed at the ground floor of the municipal hall here, the e-Center is equipped with eight computer units offering a minimal fee an hour, and is manned by Engr. Edward S. Lactam, the Information Technology Officer (promoted from Computer Operator I under Mayor’s Office) and an assistant.
The Luna Community eCenter continues to provide avenue for the people to keep a finger on the sphere of advancing information and technology. At the municipal government level, employees got the guts to do away with tik-taks of manual and obsolete offices equipments, data processing, slow information and traditional office procedures of which one can do away with the help of new technology. In cooperation with the Apayao State College-North Apayao Campus situated at San Isidro Sur this municipality, a project on Computer Literacy and Office Productivity Applications was held as part of the e-Center’s outreach program where a number of government employees from both local and national government agencies were benefited. Mayor Verzola aims a 100% computer literate workforce to better enhance the delivery of basic services.
The e-Center’s number of clients is obviously increasing as it is the least costly mode of communication specially those residents with relatives abroad. People from nearby towns are also catered by the e-Center. Meanwhile, the Luna eCenter helps people in various sectors in a thousand and one ways. One visiting balikbayan was amazed knowing that she can still do business even at a vacation making use of the eCenter facilities. Reminiscing the turmoil of a once insurgent town and haven for the rebels, she could hardly imagine how this place was transformed to a “hi-tec” community. Students, too, are grateful indeed that the eCenter makes their researches easier and faster. Reporting and communication to higher offices is made faster for the national agencies and offices that are located in Luna. Teachers dared to enroll in Open Universities for Distance Learning believing that the center is the right and proper place for their on line studies. Communication here and abroad was made easier and faster–for the employees, students, farmers, businessmen, religious leaders and relatives of OFWs.
Hon. Betty Caluya-Verzola is grateful of the National Computer Center for favoring her request of establishing one in the municipality for her constituents to enjoy the benefits offered by the technology.
